When is it Alright to Date a Married Woman?

Dating at the best of times is a complicated affair. But if it is a married woman you are dating, you probably feel like walking on eggshells most of the time. If a married woman is dating you, chances are she is unbearably sad in her own marriage. Emotional abuse in a marriage takes various forms; it could range from a husband being overly critical or unnaturally jealous to not allowing his wife any money to spend or see her own friends and family. There are various levels and kinds of marital abuse and many times it is the absence of any possibility of happiness or peace in her marriage that compels a married woman to seek support and comfort in another man. If you believe this is true of the woman you are dating, try to motivate her to seek help. Encourage her to become financially independent or take a course which would help her to get a job. In all probability her abusive husband would oppose this and even threaten violence but fortunately there are laws which help an abused woman to live in safety and with dignity. And since filing for divorce is not the same thing as being finally divorced, it means that until the process is through, your partner and her spouse are still married for all legal purposes. This is because different states in the US have different laws governing marriage and divorce. For instance in California, there is a process called bifurcation which allows partners to be restored to the status of single persons within six months of filing for divorce. This is so that one can get back to a normal social life while the legal process of divorce follows its own course. So until the time your partner’s divorce comes through it may be OK for you to date her. However it would still be a good idea to check with the laws in your state - or the state where your partner was married - so that it would be the right thing to do and not adversely impact her divorce proceedings.

Dating a married woman is usually not the wisest thing to do. However there is no accounting for human relationships and sometimes you may find yourself in a situation where the woman of your dreams just happens to have a wedding ring on herself. And in certain circumstances it may even be alright for you to date her or have a relationship with her.
