Get adventurous
A special feature of the coastline of Belize is the Belize Barrier Reef which protects the coast and keeps the beaches relatively safe. For the same reason though you will not see much surf or under currents and to experience adventure on the high seas you may need to venture outside the reef – where you can indulge in spectacular deep sea fishing and scuba diving. And yet there is no dearth of adventurous activities in Belize – one of the most popular such options here is cave exploring and particularly, cave tubing. Belize has the most extensive underground cave networks in Central America known as the Belize ATM Cave, which travels for miles underground. The Caves Branch River is a unique river that races through the karst foothills of the Maya Mountains in central Belize. So if you and your partner book a cave tubing session, you will be roaring down river for two miles underground. Other than this, you can go canoeing or kayaking down the Belize River, Mopan and Macal Rivers. Most tour companies and resorts offer Class II and III rapids, and their guides are certified by the local tourist board.
Additional instruction is given throughout the runs, which include reading the white water, learning about obstacles, and surfing the river waves. The most famous destination for water sports especially diving in the whole of Belize is the Blue Hole Natural Monument. Located in the center of the Lighthouse Reef Atoll, the Blue Hole is actually a circular limestone sinkhole measuring 126 meters deep and 395 meters across. The site gets its name from the amazing vivid blue color of the water which is caused by the depth of the hole. The Blue Hole is one of the most astounding diving sites in the world and the spectacular limestone formations found nearby heighten the attraction of the place. Scuba-diving, snorkeling and diving are some of the most popular water sports that tourists enjoy here and that you can try with your partner.
