Dating in Chicago - Dating Opportunities for Single Men and Women in Chicago

Chicago boasts the third highest population of any city in the United States,  is a member of the top ten Global Financial Centres in the world (beating out the bigger city in Loas Angeles; only behind New York in the United States), and is the home state of current U.S. President Barack Obama. That's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of all the bragging that The Windy City could do if it could talk, so needless to say it's a pretty desirable place to reside. Just living in a cool city doesn't automatically give you a love life though so here are a few ideas on how to go about dating in Chicago.

As a Chicago resident, you have one of the easiest, least expensive and most enjoyable date options available anywhere: Millennium Park. The park is an enormous 25 acres, admission is free and it offers a variety of different things to do and see. In the summer months you can always impress a date with old fashioned charm by suggesting a picnic or a simple walk through the impressive scenery. The Crown Fountain is a work of art that is aesthetically incomparable; imagine a 50 foot tall tower cycling through videos of faces which in turn cascade water down on the public continuously throughout each day. The fountain can allow you to frolic with your date in a playful manner while cooling off from the summer heat and playing around like little kids periodically is good for any relationship. The Cloud Gate sculpture is also an truly epic piece of art that is a sight which everyone living in the vicinity would be doing themselves a disservice not to experience.  Furthermore, free concerts and open music auditions are held regularly during the summer months at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, which may well be the best outdoor concert venue in America. During the winter you can bundle up and hit the ice rink as well; show off your skills as you glide around effortlessly or fumble around like you're just learning to walk, as either can make for a good time. This place is basically dozens of dates all balled into one and it provides a really enjoyable atmosphere for getting to know someone. Millennium Park is arguably  the most awe-inspiring park in the entire United States, and with an overall cost of free you can make this date happen even while your bank account is in the negatives, so make it happen.

Chicago has a very active music scene and a legion of local music enthusiasts; the cliches like “music is life” or “music is my boyfriend” that are abundant on Mypace profiles and such pretty much define a large portion of Chicago's 18-30 year old age bracket. Chicago boasts a list of bands and artists that have gained massive popularity and critical acclaim over the last couple of decades that easily tops that of any other city in the United States. There are those who would raise an argument that their city has better music, but outside of maybe Austin and Seattle residents no one's going to be able to make a list of bands from their hometown which are both as well known and respected by music snobs than Chicago's. Such musicians include rock acts like The Smashing Pumpkins, Local H, Veruca Salt, Liz Phair, Alkaline Trio, Chevelle, Plain White T's and Fall Out Boy as well as rap phenoms like Kanye West, Twista and Lupe Fiasco. The Windy City also played a big role in the original popularization of blues and jazz music in America through legends like Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters. It can't hurt to be aware that all of these acts originated in Chicago, as many residents will have a bit of a biased view of their greatness because of this fact.

Make yourself part of the movement by attending concerts and frequenting venues which consistently present aspiring local musicians. These types of environments don't require an entourage; if you're a girl and you go alone you will almost certainly be approached and if you're a guy and you go alone you'll have the “wounded musician” air about you which is appealing in this context. and they're a gateway into one of the most highly respected lifestyles out there: the musical elitist. So long as you know a bit about the band you're going to see then you've automatically got something in common with anyone who you might talk to. The relaxed and casual nature of local concerts really makes for a prime spot to meet people without awkwardness.

Chicago offers up a great variety of people and attractions making for a very nice and flowing dating scene on the whole. Take advantage of your city and some of the ease which it allows for in terms of places to be and things to do in order to enhance your love life with minimal effort. Take heed in the fact that you're in a highly sought after zone of the country and let the the city in which you live play a role in finding you love.
