Is There Any Known Cure for Herpes?

Herpes is an infectious disease that goes into different phases throughout its natural course. One of the steps is a healing phase in which all of the lesions and symptoms go away. However, this does not mean you have been cured from herpes. Instead, the disease remains latent inside your body and may cause an outbreak afterward with new skin lesions. The frequency of outbreaks often decrease as time passes, and certain medications are able to reduce the duration and frequency of these outbreaks, as well as the risk of sexual transmission. There are therapeutic vaccines in clinical trials that should be tested for efficacy and safety before being used and offered in the medical practice, but there is currently no known and reliable cure for herpes outbreaks.
