Are There Any Vaccines for Herpes?

Vaccines can be applied to protect ourselves from diseases such as influenza or yellow fever. However, in some cases vaccines can also be applied in a therapeutic modality. They are biological preparations specially made to help our immune system recognize and attack certain microorganisms. As we speak, the only approved treatment for herpes is the use of antiviral drugs, but there are currently two different companies which are developing herpes vaccines for therapeutic and preventative purposes. They are in clinical trials, which means they need to run additional tests in wider populations in order to ensure safety and efficacy before making the new products availed to a wider audience. The ravax and Profavax are the names of the vaccines currently being studied to get approved by the FDA.
