Can You Donate Plasma if You Have Herpes?
The same risks apply when donating plasma as when donating blood. In fact donating plasma is similar to donating blood. A needle is inserted in a vein in your arm through which blood is withdrawn. The plasma is then separated from the red blood cells and other cellular components. In order to donate plasma donors must undergo several pre-donation screenings and tests for the HIV and Hepatitis viruses but not for the Herpes virus. So as long as you are feeling healthy and are not currently undergoing a herpes outbreak it is perfectly ok for you to donate plasma.
