Ten Sad Romantic Movies

Some romantic movies touch your heart deeply. Their tragic twist knots up your heart and brings in the tears. So grab some tissue and settle down to watch these sad and romantic tales of love:
- Speak (2004)
A young teen Melinda Sordino (Kirsten Stewart) arrives at high school in a mood of depression and refusing to speak. Her peers teasingly call her squealer after she alerted the police on being sexually harassed by Andy Evans. She refuses to open up on the details of the incident and hers sense of alienation and despair deepens with increasing distance from her parents. But she gets solid support from her art teacher, Mr. Freeman and school friend David Petrakis. She emerges stronger by not repressing her emotions and coming out clean with her feelings.
- Titanic (1997)
Searching for the legendary diamond necklace called the ‘heart of the ocean’, in the greatest of all ship wreckages, the Titanic, deep sea explorer Brock Lovett finds instead a picture of a beautiful nude woman. When he makes this picture public, he receives a call from one Rose Calvert of Michigan who claims that she is the subject of the picture and the owner of the diamond. The 100 year old now accompanies Lovett to the ship wreck and recounts her tale of one of the greatest love stories of all time. She was Rose Dewitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) a society beauty who boarded the Titanic on its maiden voyage, headed for Philadelphia to marry her fiancé, the snobbish Caledon Hockley whom she hates. Also aboard the ship but in third class is young dreamer Jack Dawson (Learnodo Di Caprio). The two meet when Jacks saves her from trying to commit suicide. They embark on a passionate romance and Jack paints her famous picture which Hockley comes to find. An enraged Hockley locks up Jack. Meanwhile the Titanic makes her in-famous crash into an iceberg and Rose must help rescue Jack from the drowning ship. Jack does not survive but Rose survives thanks to him and she hides the diamond with her. Unknown to anyone the 100 year old Rose throws the diamond back to the ship wreckage in memory of her greatest love. The Titanic beat all records as the highest grossing movie of the decade.
- A Walk to Remember (2002)
In Beaufort, North Carolina a teenage prank on a student goes wrong and lands him in hospital. Landon Carter a popular teen is held responsible and lands up with punishment that includes community service and starring as the lead of a school play. He is thrown together with Jamie Sullivan, the reverend’s daughter with whom he has nothing in common. To everyone’s surprise the two develop a relationship much to the chagrin of his old friends and her father. A couple of twists later the story concludes. Stars Mandy Moore and Shane West in the lead.
- Moulin Rouge
The year is 1899 and the place is Paris. A young English writer, Christian comes to Paris to pursue his writing career. He meets a group of Bohemians who egg him on to compose a musical show to be performed at the Moulin Rouge, the most famous night club in Paris. When they arrive at the Moulin rouge, Christian meets and falls in love with Satine a courtesan and the star of the club. Slowly Satine returns his affection. Mean time the owner of the club Harold Zidler solicits the help of a wealthy duke to pay for the club. But the Duke insists on one condition- Satine must be his. The love triangle moves forward with twists and turns. Satine does not know but she is the holder of a deadly secret.
- Ladder 49
Under the eyes of his mentor Mike Kennedy, probationer Jack Morrison becomes a seasoned officer at a Baltimore fire station. Jack reached the cross roads of his life as the sacrifices he has made on his job has impacted the relationship with his wife and children. In the worst blaze of his career, he is trapped inside a 20 story building. His chief now coordinates a frantic effort to save him.
- P.S. I Love You
Stars Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler in lead roles. Hilary Swank is a beautiful, smart woman married to the love of her life-an Irishman named Gerry. When Gerry loses his life to an illness, Holly is heartbroken. Gerry knowing deeply about Holly writes a series of letters that inspire her to come back to enjoy life. The first message arrives on Holly’s 30th birthday in the form of a cake and a tape recording of a loving message from Gerry who urges her to get back to life. In the following months, more letters are delivered from Gerry, each signing off with the message- P.S.- I Love you. Holly’s mother and friends are afraid that Gerry’s letters are keeping her tied to the past.
- My Sister’s Keeper (2009)
Anna Fitzgerald tries to earn medical emancipation from her parents who have relied on their youngest child to help their leukemia stricken daughter Kate remain alive. The eleven year old seeks the help of successful lawyer Campbell Alexander in her efforts. She reveals her story to the lawyer, how she was conceived to become a donor to her Leukemia stricken sister Kate. Campbell agrees to work pro-bono and the obsessed parents decide to take her to court to force Anna to help her sister.
- Atonement (2007)
Robbie Turner is heading to fight the war in France and his life story underwent a turn four years back in the Tallis estate where he grew up with the three Tallis children, son Leon and daughters Cecilia and Briony. The younger Briony who has a crush on Robbie says some lies about Cecilia and Robbie which ruins his life. Four years later, Briony wants to atone for her misdeeds even if it takes the rest of her life.
- Finding Neverland
In 1903, in England the playwright James Mathew Barrie has a writer’s block and his last work was a deceptive play. Then he meets the children of a widow Sylvia Llewellyn Davies and becomes a friend of the family. Sylvia becomes his muse and her children the source of inspiration. James then writes his famous book-‘ Peter Pan and Neverland’.
- The Curious case of Benjamin Button
Elderly Daisy Williams (Cate Blanchet) is on the verge of death in New Orleans. She asks her adult daughter Caroline to read aloud the diaries of her long time friend Benjamin Button. From here emerges the extraordinary story of Benjamin Button(Brad Pitt). He lived life in reverse- born as an old man and growing younger throughout the years. He was abandoned by his father after his mother died at child birth and was raised by Queenie, a kind hearted black woman who is a caregiver at a senior’s home. Daisy met Benjamin at that home where her grandmother was also a resident. Though they go their separate ways, Button and Daisy remained lifelong friends.
