Natural Ways to Get Rid of Wrinkles Around Mouth

The skin bears one of the earliest signs of aging with the appearance of fine lines. Crow’s feet, frown lines and laugh lines are some of the types of wrinkles which come up in specific areas in the face. If you have been noticing a particular increase in wrinkles around your mouth but don’t wish to go for expensive cosmetics or treatments, here are some natural measures you can adopt to reduce their appearance.

Moisturize

No matter your age, it's important to keep skin moisturized. Moisturizers have the temporary effect of plumping up the skin and the longer-lasting effect of keeping skin supple and less prone to the inevitable etching in of lines. while there are any number of moisturizers available in the market, you can use natural products like almond oil, coconut oil, olive oil or milk cream to moisturize the areas around your mouth so that wrinkles are kept at bay for as long as possible.

Load up on anti-oxidants

The skin is after all one of the major organs of the human body and like the others, it needs the right kind of nutrition to stay healthy. As nutritionists never tire of saying, include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet, particularly those which are red, green, purple and orange in color. The more colorful the fruits and vegetables you eat, the higher your intake of anti-oxidants which combat harmful free radicals responsible for the damaging effects of aging on the skin. Free radicals attack healthy skin cells and cause collagen breakdown, all of which lead to wrinkles. You can fight free radicals by using an antioxidant cream each morning that has a combination of any two or more ingredients such as green tea, vitamins C and E, and coenzyme Q10. These work together to neutralize free radicals and a cocktail of these antioxidants are like a multi-vitamin for skin. However if you wish to go for an entirely natural remedy, load up your diet with anti-oxidants foods like fresh fruits and vegetables which may help to combat wrinkles around in the mouth region.

Role in the AHAs

As people age, the skin tends to become thinner, drier and dull. Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) work as exfoliants, helping break down dead, dry skin and leaving skin looking brighter and more dewy. Studies also show AHAs may increase the thickness of skin by boosting collagen production. However if you wish to keep things natural, you could apply a paste of products which contain glycolic acids or other alpha hydroxy acids in their natural form. Glycolic acid it occurs as a trace component in a limited number of foods, including sugarcane, sugar beets and grapes. Papayas, apples, lemons and pineapples are other fruits which contain different types of alpha hydroxy acids. Thus you can prepare skin packs with any one of these ingredients or consume them orally to obtain their nutritional benefits.

Stay hydrated

Over the day, your body loses water as a result of various activities which not only include going out to work or shop but also physical exertion due to domestic chores, working out in the gym and even drinking beverages like coffee and soda. It is important to replenish this lost moisture from within so that you don’t get dehydrated and end up with dry, patchy-looking skin. Drinking ample amount of water like two to three liters a day, other than what you are getting from foods and drinks, will ensure that your skin remains hydrated and thus supple and smooth-looking.

Keep the sun at bay

Sunlight is essential for the processing of Vitamin D in the human body and, according to some researchers, even for creating a happy, positive mental state. However too much of a good thing can be bad and today skin experts warn that sun’s rays are the foremost cause of premature aging and wrinkling of the skin. The most effective way to block out the rays of the sun from damaging and darkening your skin is to use an umbrella or a parasol even though it becomes slightly ungainly, both in handling and appearance. The second option is to use a sunscreen or a sunblock, if you have to be out for a long time. There are numerous kinds of sunscreens out in the market and you should preferably go for ones with 20 SPF or more. If you want to go completely natural, you can use cucumber juice or almond oil which have some protective function against the sun but are not as effective as zinc oxide which is the main constituent of bottled sunscreens.

Give your face some exercise

Yet another way to reduce wrinkles around the mouth is to give that region ample exercise. Wrinkles are often the result of sagging skin after the muscle beneath has lost its firmness but if you ensure that your facial muscles are well exercised then the appearance of wrinkles could be minimized. There are three muscles that, when atrophied, are responsible for causing laugh lines, wrinkles, and saggy skin near the mouth and chin areas of the face; these are the levator anguli oris muscles which extend downward starting at the bottom corners of the nose down to the corners of the mouth, the depressor anguli oris muscles which extend from the corners of the mouth downward to the chin and wrap under the jaw line as well as the zygomaticus major muscles which extend from the corners of the mouth to the ear. When toned and firm, these muscles lift and tighten the cheeks, preventing them from sagging forward or down to further contribute to the problem of laugh lines. To tighten these facial muscles you can perform certain isometric resistance facial exercises which involve sticking your index fingers in the corners of your mouth and pulling at your mouth with your fingers. Pull slightly until you stretch your mouth about a quarter inch. While your mouth is stretched you should tighten the muscles around your mouth until you feel a pull against your fingers. Ideally try to perform between 25 and 50 repetitions of this exercise but take care to avoid causing wrinkles which may deepen the already present laugh lines. Chewing sugar-free gum is a fun way to work out the facial and jaw muscles. This is because the muscles in your face responsible for keeping your jaw line tight and area around mouth supple are the same muscles that you use to chew.

Quit smoking

Here is another reason why you should throw away the cancer stick. Among all the organs that smoking can harm directly, is also the skin. Put in the simplest way, smoking restricts the oxygen-rich blood supply to the skin cells, thus reducing its ability to regenerate and build new cells. The result is drier skin, more wrinkles and earlier aging as compared to people who don’t smoke. So if you want healthy and wrinkle-free skin on your face, one of the quickest ways is to stop loading your system with toxins found in cigarettes.

Take steps to de-stress

While contemporary society offers more opportunities and resources for self-growth than ever before, one often has to pay the price in the form of acute stress. And an inevitable effect of all this stress over the years is an exhausted and haggard-looking appearance which do nothing to hide the impact of advancing years. So one of the most important things you can do to minimize appearance of wrinkles is to avoid stress and anxiety as much as possible. Cosmetologists point out that being stressed all the time leads to fine lines on your forehead and around your mouth but along with that, lack of sleep and unhealthy eating habits too cause long-term damage to the skin.  So get adequate sleep which, depending on the needs of your body, may range from seven to nine hours. Again since some amount of stress at work or home is unavoidable, look for ways and means you can minimize being negatively affected by them. Meditate, pick up a relaxing hobby or go for long walks – calm and refresh your mind in any way you can. And once you feel contented and peaceful from inside, the effects are bound to be evident in a younger looking you on the outside.
